Aldi Ireland’s Group Managing Director issued an urgent reminder to all Christmas shoppers on Wednesday.
With just days to go until December 25, supermarkets across Ireland are busy as shoppers stock up for the big day.
Even the most organised of households may need to nip to the shops to pick up some last minute supplies.

However Aldi boss Niall O’Connor has reminded customers that all stores will be shutting their doors for a number of days over the festive period.
The supermarket will join many others in closing for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, but Mr O’Connor has given five days' notice that Aldi stores will also be shut on St Stephen’ Day.
In a letter to customers, he said: “In the run-up to Christmas, our stores will be open for longer to make it even easier for shoppers to pick up what they need during the festive period. Our Click and Collect service is also available at 20 Irish stores, with slots still available to book.
“Since opening in Ireland in 1999, we have closed our doors on Christmas Day, St. Stephen’s Day and New Year’s Day, to thank our colleagues for their hard work and commitment to helping customers throughout the year. This year is no different, as we want all of Team Aldi to enjoy Christmas with their own families,” he said.
Mr O’Connor also acknowledged the cost of living crisis and outlined what the supermarket is doing to help.
He said: “This has been a challenging year for so many households and we know lots of people will be worried about the festive period, which is why we are working hard to do all we can to support our customers, colleagues and communities alike.
“To provide additional support for those struggling this Christmas, we are donating over €33,300 worth of Aldi gift cards to our charity partner Barnardos, bringing the total number of vouchers donated to Barnardos in 2022 to €58,300. Our gift cards will help support over 300 vulnerable children and families most in need across Ireland over Christmas. This forms part of our commitment to donating €1 million over the next 2 years having successfully achieved the €1m target for the last two years.
“To continue working towards this goal, we’d like to ask you, our loyal customers, to help us support those most in need this Christmas by visiting www.Barnardos.ie/Aldi and donating online. Pledging as little as €4 can help Barnardos provide a hot dinner and access to specialised care for a child in a Barnardos after-school club.
“As well as this, we will once again be donating surplus food to local charities once stores close on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, as part of our long-established partnership with FoodCloud. A total of 86 local Irish causes will benefit from the donations this year.”
Aldi and many other supermarkets across Ireland have altered their opening hours over the festive season.
