Pancake Day is almost upon us and one supermarket has come out as the cheapest place to get the ingredients you need following a price comparison study.
Research from Little-Loans.com looked at prices of key ingredients at nine supermarkets ahead of Shrove Tuesday tomorrow (March 1).
And Aldi came out as the cheapest at just £2.69 a head.
The supermarkets were then ranked from one to ten in terms of their value for money, with one being ranked the cheapest and ten the most expensive.
The ingredients
- Six eggs
- Plain white flour
- One pint of semi-skimmed milk
- Caster sugar
- Lemon juice
- Chocolate spread
- Strawberries
- Golden syrup
- Blueberries
The rankings
At only £2.69 a head, you can make at least two delicious pancakes with a selection of topping options to choose from.
Also ranking in the top three supermarkets are Asda and Tesco, where you can get the bundle of pancake ingredients for less than a tenner.
Coming in as the most expensive this year is M&S, trailing behind at more than 1.5 times the cost of ingredients as Aldi.
Little-Loans.com’s Consumer Finance Expert, Paul Wilson, said: “We all look forward to Pancake Day- the tradition of getting competitive with our pancake flipping and then indulging in our creations. And though the start of the year can be a difficult time financially for everyone, this shouldn’t stop you from getting involved!”
“Celebrating Pancake Day can be done cheaply and easily. Whether you prefer making yours from scratch or using a pancake batter mix, don’t get caught out spending more than you need to by checking prices online ahead of supermarket trips to ensure you’re getting the best value for money.”
