Albion Rovers shocked by player exit as Cliftonhill club claim they didn't know about departure to Dumbarton

David Wilson has left Albion Rovers - but the Cliftonhill club allege they weren't aware of that before its announcement.

The midfielder was a key performer for boss Brian Reid as they comfortably beat the drop in League Two this season.

Scoring five goals and five assists over the season, he featured 40 times but has now made a decision on his future.

He will join Dumbarton and come up against the Wee Rovers next campaign after the Sons' relegation to the third tier.

Wilson formed part of their 2018 Challenge Cup and returns on a one-year deal

But responding to the news on Twitter, the Coatbridge club say they were not in the know that the 27-year-old had left.

They said: "Sooooo David Wilson is leaving us for Dumbarton. Nice of him to let the club know lol.

"We thank David for his time at Albion Rovers - and forgive him the manner of his departure and wish him well."

Sons manager Stevie Farrell said: "David operated under me at Stranraer, on loan from Partick, before he came to Dumbarton the first time around.

"He has made steady progress as a player since then and we feel he is a player with a lot to offer us."
