Albion Rovers have sacked boss Brian Reid this evening following their 1-0 defeat at home to Bonnyrigg Rose.
The result has left the Cliftonhill club rock bottom of League Two after a Kieran Mitchell strike in the second half helped Rose leapfrog Rovers in the table.
Robbie Horn's team are now a point clear of Rovers with just six games remaining, as the sides bid to avoid finishing in the relegation play-off place, and the Rovers board have decided to part ways with Reid after almost three years at the helm.
Whoever finishes bottom in League Two does not suffer automatic relegation, but they will face the winners of the Highland/Lowland League play-off in a bid to hold on to their SPFL status.
Reid did not emerge for his post-match interview after today's game and the writing was on the wall when it was discovered he was meeting with chairman Ian Benton after the final whistle.
The club have tonight taken the decision to relieve him and his assistant Scott MacKenzie of their duties.
A statement read: "Albion Rovers FC can confirm that we have parted company with Manager Brian Reid and Assistant Scott MacKenzie by mutual consent.
"On behalf of everyone at Albion Rovers FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Brian and Scott for all their efforts during their time with the Club, and wish them every success in the future."
Reid joined Rovers during the height of the Covid pandemic in June 2020 and in a shortened season he led the club to the safety of a seventh place finish.
Last term, the club finished eighth and 10 points clear of bottom side Cowdenbeath, who were eventually relegated through the pyramid play-off and now play in the Lowland League.
This season has been a campaign riddled with injuries to key players and something Reid was keen to point out throughout the campaign.
The club also suffered a third round exit in the Scottish Cup to Lowland League outfit Stirling University.
But his side were still capable of pulling off big results and this season they have enjoyed 4-0 wins against rivals Bonnyrigg and Stranarer while, just last week, they thumped then league leaders Dumbarton 5-1.
Costly 1-0 defeats to Stranraer and Bonnyrigg in the last four days, however, have left the club in a perilous position and the club have moved to do all they can to avoid falling through the SPFL trap door.
