Stirling Albion manager Darren Young has praised double goalscoring hero Kai Fotheringham for hitting the ground running.
The on-loan Dundee United teenager chipped in with his first two goals for the club in last weekend’s win over Stranraer after joining the Binos on a short-term deal until January.
The highly-rated 19-year-old has already had spells at Cove Rangers, Raith Rovers and Falkirk and made his second start for the club in the 4-1 win over the Blues.
The result briefly lifted the Binos to second place in the League Two table before Stenhousemuir’s 2-1 win over East Fife on Tuesday lifted them above Stirling.
Young said: “Kai has been unlucky not to have scored goals in his first couple of games for us and you can see his quality.
“He’s been really good and is also the right type of player as well because there are some young boys who might come and maybe not fancy it – especially after being on the bench in the Europa Conference League – but there are no airs and graces with Kai.
“He’s not done his chances any harm and we’re looking for him to be getting goals and assists every week and he also really knocks his pan in back the way as well.
“It’s a great option to have him because he can play anywhere in midfield and off the striker as well so it’s good to have those options.”
Albion travel to Forfar tomorrow (Saturday) to take on the eighth-placed visitors, who claimed a first win in five outings with a 2-0 victory at Albion Rovers.
Young added: “Their result at the weekend just shows how tight it is.
“One win kicks them up towards halfway in the table and if you can go on a run, then that shoots you towards the top. We’re not going to look too far ahead.
“We’re going to try and keep the same level of performance from the last two weeks and we’ve not been far away all season because individual mistakes have cost us in some games.
“It’s all about trying to get that balance and trying to grind out results and wins to get as many points on the board as possible, but the pleasing thing is from the number of chances we are creating in games.
“We’re playing good football at the moment and we have a good strong squad of players so those are the real positives.”
