Alaska Airlines has announced an extension to its flight cancellations involving Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft until Tuesday. This decision has been made in light of ongoing concerns and investigations surrounding the safety of these planes.
The airline originally suspended operations of its 737 MAX 9 aircraft on March 15th, following the global grounding of the model after two fatal crashes. The preliminary investigations into the crashes, one involving Lion Air in October 2018 and the other involving Ethiopian Airlines in March 2019, highlighted potential issues with the aircraft's automated flight control system known as MCAS (Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System).
