Alanna Quinn Idris will never see through her left eye again after alleged assault

Alanna Quinn Idris says she will never see through her left eye again after an alleged assault that changed her life forever

The 18-year-old suffered serious facial injuries in an incident in Ballyfermot on December 30, including a ruptured eyeball, a broken cheekbone, and a shattered tooth.

Alanna is making great progress recovering from the attack and returned to school last week.

And the courageous teenager took to social media recently to explain the extent of the damage done to her eye.

She said: "I was hit and my eye got pushed back 15 millimetres.

"My retina was detached and my eye socket was shattered.

"They had to take bone from my hip to rebuild my eye socket.

"My eye doesn't work. I can't really open it. This is how much I can open my eyelid properly, so not fully."

The sixth-year student told her followers the pressure in her left eye is much lower than her working right eye, and explained how her eye was "pushed back" in the attack.

In a TikTok video, she said: "The pressure in my eye is about three. The normal pressure is about 10 to 20 or something like that.

"This one [her right eye] is about 15 or something. I can't remember.

"Your eye can be pushed back seven millimetres before there is permanent damage. My eye was pushed back 15 millimetres.

"It has shrunken now because when your eye is hit or goes through trauma on your eye it can shrink over time, and mine did."

The brave Ballyfermot native added that there is no hope of her seeing through her left eye again.

She said: "I just watched that back and realised I said my retina was detached - it is still detached.

"I am not going to get surgery to reattach it or whatever because there is no point.

"It is not going to come back working even if I do get it reattached."
