Alanna Quinn Idris loses sight in eye after alleged Ballyfermot assault

The mum of a teenager Alanna Quinn Idris has revealed she has lost sight in one eye.

Alanna Quinn Idris, 17, and her friend were allegedly assaulted near the Ballyfermot Civic Centre on December 30, 2022.

Mum Jamie Ambers said the teen will have to undergo reconstructive surgery for her eye socket using the bone from her hip and a plate to replace her cheekbone.

Jamie also revealed that Alanna's doctors were certain her sight will not return.

She said: "Five weeks today since [it happened]. It feels like an eternity I can't even explain it.

"It actually feels like we've been dealing with this for years now.

"Myself and her dad had made a decision a few weeks ago to keep the social media posts to a minimum and I decided to restrict my updates to close friends and family.

"In doing so I think it gave some people the impression that Alanna was doing great and was 'on the mend'. This is so far from the truth I can't even explain it."

An online fundraiser launched for Alanna has raised a whopping €95,300 - over €90,000 of its original goal of €5,000.

Sharing an update on the GoFundMe page, Jamie said Alanna is still unable to open her eyelid and that she may have sustained nerve damage.

A boy was arrested in connection with the alleged assault on Wednesday and held at a West Dublin station before being released yesterday.

Another male juvenile was taken into custody by gardai yesterday under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and he was still being quizzed last night.

This was the fourth arrest was part of the probe into the incident.

Two males in their late teens were charged in connection with the alleged assault on Alanna and her friend and appeared in court in early January.
