Alan Titchmarsh reduced to tears on ITV Love Your Garden

Gardening legend Alan Titchmarsh was reduced to tears during the latest instalment of Love Your Garden on ITV.

Tuesday's episode saw Alan, 74, arrive at a family's home to help transform their outdoor space, but ended up becoming emotional. The programme sees Alan and his team travel the country each week looking for people who need some help improving their gardens.

This time Alan was in Nottinghamshire where he met Daniel Bradbury, 32, and the rest of his family including his two kids.

But things quickly became emotional as Alan learned dad Daniel is one of the youngest people in the UK to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease.

Alan then told the rest of his team while he was planning the space: "The other thing we must remember while we're doing this is that Daniel was a landscape gardener when he was diagnosed." He added: "He's one of ours isn't he..." before trailing off as he was overcome with emotion and began to tear up.

Alan said: "We've got to look after him haven't we. We'll do him proud. As one man of soil to another, I'm determined to give Daniel and his family a garden to be proud of."

The team got to work, turning the huge garden full of weeds and dry grass into a haven with figure of eight paths, trees, bushes, wildflowers, a garden room and a dining area, complete with pergola cover, working kitchen and a table and chairs, Yorkshire Live reports.

They even installed a water feature and a learning playhouse for the family's two toddlers, before Daniel was invited to see the team's hard work and the unrecognisable transformation.

Daniel had tears in his eyes as he said: "Thank you very much. Alan then introduced Daniel to "Dad's apple tree", which Daniel was invited to place the final spade full of soil on to say he "helped plant it", so that it would always be there for his kids.

Viewers at home were clearly moved by the episode. Taking to Twitter, Kayleigh said: "Beautiful, just beautiful. Such a touching story."

Gavin said: "Dad's apple tree got me [crying emoji]", while Juani said: "Aww, Daniel and Jordan. I'm not crying". Cath said: "Just a few minutes #LoveYourGarden and I'm in tears already."

Love Your Garden airs Tuesdays at 8.30pm on ITV and ITVX
