Alan Shearer says Harry Kane would 'obliterate' top scorers chart if he signed for Manchester City

Alan Shearer says that Harry Kane could "obliterate" his own Premier League record of 260 goals if he signed for Manchester City. The Newcastle legend is holding a special dinner on Tyneside to celebrate his goal tally.

Shearer admits he would love to hold on to the record and says there are a number of factors facing Kane, who has 177 goals in the Prem to his name, that could make or break his place at the top of the list.

Shearer said: "He's got a very good opportunity, but there's a lot of ifs and buts attached to that. If he stays injury free, if he stays at Tottenham if he were to go to Man City. If he was to go to Man City he would probably c it within three or four years.

"He's 29 this summer so absolutely he has a really good chance of breaking it. Do I want him to? Probably not no because I like seeing myself at the top of the list. It'll go one day, and if it goes Harry would be worthy of it definitely."

Newcastle have been linked with a host of top strikers since the takeover last autumn and if Shearer does lose his top spot he'd love the top scorer of the Premier League to be playing black and white. Shearer, speaking at the promo for the event, said: "I don't know, I hope so because it means Newcastle would be doing something and going somewhere. I hope it would but we are talking to far ahead."
