Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer says Aston Villa were fully deserving of their win and better in every position. Unai Emery's side continued their incredible run of form, ending the Magpies' impressive run in the same breath.
Shearer says the Toon were battered from start to finish and it's difficult to argue otherwise. A brace from the in-form Ollie Watkins and a first-half strike from Jacob Ramsey gave the Villains a comfortable lead.
"Well done Villa," Shearer tweeted. "Brilliant today. Not many teams have done this to Newcastle. They have battered them from start to finish and been better in every position."

With Newcastle just one goal down at the break, the Magpies legend said: "Villa been excellent. Newcastle been awful and very fortunate to still be in this. Eddies magic needed at HT."
Villa could have been 3-0 up inside the opening 20 minutes with Watkins hitting the post and Ramsey hitting the crossbar. "Should be 3-0 down," Shearer said inside the opening 20 minutes. "Newcastle can’t get near Villa at the minute. Terrible start for the Toon."
