Alan Shearer's 'absolutely fantastic' verdict on Newcastle duo Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton

Alan Shearer has hailed Newcastle United's 'absolutely fantastic' Brazilian duo Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton following the latest victory against Norwich City. The Magpies recorded a fourth straight league win on Saturday afternoon to move up to ninth in the table.

Eddie Howe made four changes for the trip to Carrow Road, and it was Joelinton who opened the scoring on his 100th Premier League appearance with an emphatic first-time finish. The former number nine grabbed his second just minutes later, tapping-in at the far post following a sliding challenge on Jacob Murphy.

Guimaraes put the result beyond doubt shortly after the restart, capitalising on a Tim Krul error with a sublime chip over the former Newcastle goalkeeper. The impact of the marquee January signing and the reborn Joelinton were both picked out for praise by BBC Sport pundit Shearer in his post-match analysis on Match of the Day.

He said: "The two Brazilians were absolutely fantastic. It's another brilliant result for Newcastle, they're on such a run playing with great confidence.

"These two are playing such a huge part in it. What a finish this is, first time, top corner, 'keeper is not stopping it. Bruno [on the second goal], that's what he's added to Newcastle. He's brave on the ball, he can play a pass like that and Joelinton gets his reward again at the far post.

"He's never hidden Joelinton, even when it wasn't working for him as a centre-forward that he was brought into Newcastle, unfairly as I said at the time."

Reflecting on Newcastle's third goal, Shearer added: "Bruno here is quicker than anyone else, reads it quicker than anyone else. Can he finish? Absolutely. Sets himself, no panic at all and he's never going to miss that.

"This is what he's done I think for Newcastle, he is brave on the ball and wants to get that ball forward. His first thought is forward, he's always demanding the ball.

"He's got that quality in the middle of the park. He's so confident, it's great to see and Eddie has said it in his interviews that they both have got such a good relationship."
