Alan Shearer names two Liverpool players in Premier League Team of the Week

Alan Shearer has named two Liverpool players in his latest Premier League Team of the Week after the 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Diogo Jota (2) and Mohamed Salah did the damage at Anfield as the Reds grabbed their second win on the spin to revive their European hopes. Ex-Liverpool player Neco Williams and Morgan Gibbs-White were on target for the Midlands strugglers as they continue to scrap against relegation.

It was a high-octane 90 minutes as Liverpool ultimately reigned supreme to move up to seventh position in their ongoing push for European qualification. Although top-four is not beyond them, it is looking more likely they will have to settle for the second tier competition instead.

Unsurprisingly, in-form Jota was among those named in the Premier League Team of the Week by Shearer, while the former Newcastle favourite also included Andy Robertson in his line-up. Robertson was a familiar supply line for the second Liverpool goal which Jota netted.

Explaining why Jota featured, Shearer told the Premier League website: "Back in form, he fully deserved his two goals and was a threat throughout."

Moving on to Roberston, the pundit continued: "All the spotlight has been on [Trent] Alexander-Arnold, but Robbo is back to his best form for Liverpool, setting up Diogo Jota's second goal with another quality assist."

Alan Shearer's EPL Team of the Week: Daniel Iversen (Leicester City); Timothy Castagne (Leicester City), Michael Keane (Everton); Andy Robertson (Liverpool); Carlos Alcaraz (Southampton), Declan Rice (West Ham), Joe Willock (Newcastle), Joelinton (Newcastle); Jacob Murphy (Newcastle), Diogo Jota (Liverpool), Alexander Isak (Newcastle).
