Alan Shearer was among the former Newcastle players to wish Derek Wright well for the future after the head physiotherapist announced his retirement. Having joined the Magpies' backroom staff in 1984 and working under 32 permanent or interim managers, he's provided his services for hundreds of different players during his time on Tyneside.
Speaking to NUFC.com Wright said: "It hasn't been an easy decision to leave the club that I love, and which has been my life for nearly 40 years. It has been an honour and a privilege to work for Newcastle United Football Club and I would like to thank all of the managers, coaches, players, staff and fans who have made it such a memorable time.
"I am very happy to maintain my connection with the club, but I am looking forward to the future spending and enjoying time with my family. I will continue supporting my club as always watching the team go from strength to strength."

The club put on record their thanks for Wright's 'long and exemplary service' and announced they would be organising a suitable send off for him with players and staff to celebrate his achievements. Former Newcastle United number nine, Shearer said: "Ah what a great man he is. Del Boy helped me back to fitness so many times. Enjoy retirement Legend."
Former Magpies goalkeeper Steve Harper tweeted: "What a man, a brilliant servant and true unsung hero @NUFC. A man who was always there when I needed him. Thank you Del Boy"
