Alan Shearer has outlined where Liverpool need to improve in the Premier League next season.
The Reds were again pipped to the title by a single point after Manchester City came from behind to beat Aston Villa at the Etihad. City trailed 2-0 at one point in the game.
A first-half header from Matty Cash was followed up by a fine Philippe Coutinho finish. At the time, Liverpool were being held by Wolves after Sadio Mane cancelled out Pedro Neto’s opener.

However, a brace from Ilkay Gundogan - in between a Rodri strike - turned the title race on its head - although Liverpool would eventually go on to beat Wolves at Anfield thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson.
Liverpool, though, won’t finish the campaign empty handed having already claimed the League Cup and FA Cup. While the Reds have a Champions League final against Real Madrid to come this weekend.
But when reflecting on Liverpool’s Premier League campaign, Shearer, speaking on Match of the Day, believes the Reds must improve their form against the division’s top sides. Liverpool were held to draws by City and Chelsea this season.
He said: “Played six, they haven’t won any of their games, they didn’t lose any either, but that’s a tiny detail that they can look back on and say, 'Those are the three teams not winning a game'.”
