Alan Shearer has explained why he thinks Kieran Trippier is better than Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Reds full-back has been the subject of speculation regarding his selection for the England squad at this winter’s World Cup in Qatar. After it eas confirmed earlier on Thursday, Gareth Southgate has selected Alexander-Arnold in his 26-man squad.
Newcastle’s Trippier has also been selected, along with Manchester City’s Kyle Walker in the right-back position. Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was also included in the squad, but there was no place for his team-mate Joe Gomez.

While discussing the right-backs at Southgate’s disposal. Shearer has explained why he thinks Trippier has the better of Alexander-Arnold.
“I don’t see a great deal of difference between Trent and Trippier,” Shearer told LADbible TV .
“In terms of set-pieces, he’s fantastic. I know he scored last season, this season, set a few up. Assists-wise, crosses.
“He’s a better defender. I think as an all-round package what you’re looking for, I think Trippier is better than every one of them.”
Speaking before the England squad was announced, former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler said he could not understand why Alexander-Arnold would not be selected and laughed off doubts he could be not be trusted by Southgate.
"I'm hearing people saying that Gareth Southgate can't trust him because of his defensive liabilities if you like," Fowler, who won 26 England caps, told Midnite..
"Alexander-Arnold is a young player who’s won absolutely everything in the game. He's won one Premier League, but all the other trophies he’s won there, such as the Club World Cup, the Champions League, the FA Cup.
"If a manager can't guarantee Trent Alexander-Arnold to be focused in on being the right-back for a knockout stage of a tournament, then it's absolutely ridiculous because the lad has won absolutely everything, including in knockout football. He’s a man who can be guaranteed to go out and perform."
