Former England striker Alan Shearer has praised Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez for his in-game understanding with Lionel Messi.

Alvarez was named alongside Messi in the Argentina's starting line-up for the World Cup final clash against France, with the 22-year-old having registered four goals and one assist at the tournament in Qatar. The Blues ace scored a brace in the semi-final triumph over Croatia as the South American side cruised into the final.

Lionel Scaloni's side, who went into the game bidding to win the World Cup for the third time in their history, defeated Croatia, the Netherlands and Australia in the knockout rounds in Qatar.
