Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer and co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi have reacted to the announcement that boyhood Magpies fan Sam Fender will be playing at St James' Park next year.
Fender will be playing a gig at Newcastle's home stadium on Friday, June 9, 2023. The singer-songwriter attended his first game at St James' Park as a six-year-old and will now be playing at the ground. He will become the first Geordie to headline the venue.
He tweeted: "I always joked that one day we might play St James' Park in Newcastle, and now we're actually gonna play it on the 9th June next year. It's gonna be such a special moment and I hope you all join us for it. Tickets on sale next Friday 9th Sept, presale info below."
Shearer and Ghodoussi look as though they will both be in attendance on June 9. Shearer is a big fan of Fender and has been spotted at one of his gigs before, and the Premier League's all-time leading scoring is Fender's idol.
Shearer tweeted: "Brilliant man," while Ghodoussi posted: "Can’t wait."
Tickets for Fender's gig at St James' Park will go on sale at 10am on Friday, September 9, with pre-sale available from 10am on September 7.
