Alan Hardy reportedly interested in purchasing Scunthorpe United

Former Notts County owner Alan Hardy is reportedly interested in purchasing Scunthorpe United. The club, who are currently sitting at the bottom of the National League table, have been served a winding-up petition by the HMRC.

Mr Hardy, who took over at Notts County back in 2017, remains the owner of the Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club in Cotgrave. BBC Radio Humberside reports that Mr Hardy is now also leading a consortium interested in purchasing the struggling North Lincolnshire club.

On Twitter, he has responded to reports and questions from Irons fans on what his intentions are with the club. He tweeted: "All Clubs should drive towards a business model of self sustainability, even PL [Premier League] clubs. The days of multiple billionaire owners should be outlawed in my opinion. Their priorities are skewed & not in the best interests of the fans & communities. So all options considered for the club."

He added in another: "I will certainly listen to public opinion as I’m not prepared to come into a hostile & toxic situation. Notts went on a great run & we broke the stadium record for most supporters through the turnstiles in a season.I know what success and failure look like."

Mr Hardy went on to sell Notts County to Christoffer and Alexander Reedtz, the owners of football statistics firm Football Radar. Meanwhile, his firm Paragon Interiors went into administration back in February 2019, with all staff being made redundant - 90 jobs were lost as a result.

The petition was issued by HMRC to Scunthorpe United over unpaid tax bills. The petition for an order was given on 11 January, 2023, and is made when a creditor applies to the courts to shut a company down.

If the amount is not paid by the stated time, the company bank accounts can often be frozen and their assets sold off.
