Alan Cumming apologises for Bafta’s ‘trauma-triggering’ racial slur debacle

  • Alan Cumming, host of the Baftas, described the ceremony as a "trauma-triggering s***show" following a racial slur incident.
  • During the awards, campaigner John Davidson, who has Tourette's syndrome, shouted a racial slur while Delroy Lindo and Michael B Jordan were presenting, which was later broadcast by the BBC despite being pre-recorded.
  • Cumming issued an apology to Black people and the Tourette’s community for the pain caused and the lack of understanding surrounding the condition.
  • Both the BBC and Bafta apologised for the incident, with the BBC stating the slur aired "in error" and Bafta taking "full responsibility" and launching a review.
  • Davidson, who suffers from coprolalia, expressed being "upset and distraught" as he was allegedly assured involuntary tics would be edited out of the broadcast.
