Alan Brazil rinses Rangers star Allan McGregor for Partick Thistle goal controversy reaction amid heated 'save' debate

Bemused Alan Brazil admits he was left stunned by Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor's reaction to Partick Thistle star Scott Tiffoney being allowed to score at Ibrox.

The moment of controversy involving Malik Tillman has dominated the Scottish Cup fallout after Rangers had put the ball out of play after playmaker went down injured and Thistle took the resulting throw-in, with the apparent intention of Kevin Holt giving Rangers the ball back. Before he could get the pass out of his feet Tillman nipped in and stole the ball before rounding Jamie Sneddon to score.

Furious scenes ensued and after a brief stoppage, Rangers boss Beale told his players to allow Tiffoney to take the ball up the park and equalise to level the game, but McGregor made half an attempt to tackle him and block the shot before eventually allowing the Jags forward to thump the ball into the bottom corner. That left Celtic diehard Brazil reeling on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show.

Discussing the incident with fellow talkSPORT host Jim White, Brazil started stating: "The Partick Thistle players were raging weren't they?" White responded: "They were raging. I watched it again last night and it divided opinion up there, but it was the right thing to do. Michael Beale was very positive with the decision and let them walk the ball into the net. But Allan McGregor..."

Brazil jumped in: "What was he doing? The Thistle player had to try and beat the keeper a few times, he thought he was Jimmy Johnstone. Just let him put it in the net, will you?"

White rounded off: "It was a great performance from Thistle at Ibrox. And it was a good turnout from the fans."

Ibrox skipper James Tavernier admitted keeper McGregor wouldn't have wanted to let Thistle score but said it was the right thing to do. He said after the game: "It’s not something Allan wants to hear (let them score). He’s a proud keeper who never wants to concede but it was the right thing to do. It’s Rangers football club and we’ve a high level of standards that we try to set every single day.”
