Alabama outlasts Georgia’s stirring charge with late touchdown pass

Kalen DeBoer saw a laugher turn into a near disaster. Thanks to the first stop he made after getting the Alabama job, the Crimson Tide coach earned his first SEC victory on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

After seeing a 23-point lead turn into a one-point deficit late in the fourth quarter, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe threw a 75-yard touchdown pass to 17-year-old Ryan Williams to give the Crimson Tide a 41-34 lead after a two-point conversion.

The play came 13 seconds after Carson Beck had thrown a 67-yard touchdown pass to give Georgia a 34-33 lead after the Dawgs had once trailed 30-7.

Beck and Georgia had a last chance to either tie the game with a touchdown and PAT or go for the win with a two-point conversion. It was not to be as the quarterback threw his third interception with 43 seconds left.

When DeBoer was named to replace the retiring Nick Saban his first move was to head to Mobile, AL, to make sure Williams re-affirmed his commitment to Alabama.

The freshman had six catches for 177 yards and a touchdown in the thrilling win.

Beck threw for 439 yards and three TDs to go with the three interceptions. Miroe threw for 374 yards and two TDs. He also rushed for 117 yards and two scores.
