Akshata Murty
Akshata Murty was born into one of India’s most powerful industrial dynasties but is now best known as the wife of Britain’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who she met at California’s Stanford University. Her father Narayana Murthy co-founded the Bangalore based IT services company Infosys and is sometimes hailed as India’s Bill Gates.
Murthy has built a successful career as a fashion designer and venture capitalist but derives most of her wealth from a 0.94% stake in Infosys, which is worth more than £500 million. Dividend payments give her an income of around £14 million a year - she has collected around £40 million since 2020.
Murthy gave up her tax advantageous non-dom status last year during a growing public furore about the couple’s wealth that briefly threatened to derail her husband’s glittering political career.
