Actor Ajith Kumar will be back on the racing track on Saturday, September 12, as he competes in the Michelin Le Mans Cup round at the iconic Silverstone Circuit in the UK. This time, however, the race has an added layer of interest for Indian fans: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor C. Joseph Vijay will wave the ceremonial green flag to start the race. For fans in India, the big question is simple: What time does Ajith Kumar's race start today, and where can it be watched live?

Tamil Nadu CM Vijay to flag off Ajith's race
The Silverstone event has attracted unusual attention because Vijay, now Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, has been invited as a special guest to the Michelin Le Mans Cup round. The championship itself confirmed that Vijay would attend the Silverstone weekend to support the Indian drivers competing in the UK and officially start the race by waving the green flag. That puts two of Tamil cinema's biggest names in the same frame, but in completely different roles. Vijay will be standing at the start line as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, while Ajith will be behind the wheel.
Which team is Ajith Kumar racing for?
Ajith is competing in the LMP3 Pro/Am category for Ajith RedAnt by Virage. He is sharing the No. 16 Ligier with French driver Romain Vozniak. The Michelin Le Mans Cup had earlier confirmed Ajith's participation in the 2026 championship. Ajith is not the only Indian driver on the Silverstone grid. Former Formula 1 driver Narain Karthikeyan and racer Aditya Patel are also part of the Indian contingent at the event.
What is the Michelin Le Mans Cup?
The Michelin Le Mans Cup is an endurance racing championship launched in 2016. Unlike Formula 1, where drivers compete in single-seater cars, the series involves drivers sharing cars during endurance races. The 2026 championship features LMP3, LMP3 Pro/Am and GT3 categories. Silverstone is a special case this season because its race lasts 1 hour and 50 minutes, according to the championship's sporting regulations. Ajith's participation has given the series a much wider following in India, particularly among Tamil cinema and motorsport fans.
Ajith Kumar at Silverstone: Why today's race matters
Ajith's motorsport journey has been running alongside his film career for years. His official racing team has competed in international endurance and circuit racing events, and he has continued to pursue motorsport despite being one of India's best-known actors. The Silverstone race is another significant step because of the setting. Silverstone is one of the world's best-known racing circuits and is closely associated with British motorsport.
For Ajith's fans, though, the most anticipated moment may come before the first lap is completed. Vijay will wave the green flag. Ajith will drive away from it. That combination has turned an international endurance race into one of the most talked-about sporting events among Tamil audiences today.
