Brentford got back to winning ways after dismantling Southampton on home soil, courtesy of goals from Pontus Jansson, Yoane Wissa and Kristoffer Ajer.
Thomas Frank's side turned the game on its head in the matter of minutes with Jansson and Wissa giving the Bees a 2-0 advantage inside the opening 15 minutes.
Things got even better for the Bees when Kristoffer Ajer danced past blue and yellow shirts in the penalty area to side foot home past Fraser Forster for his first goal in red and white since arriving from Celtic last summer.
Brentford reporter Uzzi Majid looks at some of the talking points from the win over the Saints.
A deserving victory
It was a win that Brentford deserved and it could have been more had they taken their opportunities. Jansson and Wissa set them on their way, but they did have to withstand some pressure from Southampton who saw an Adam Armstrong goal disallowed for offside by very thin margins.
Whilst the Saints did have their opportunities, Brentford were never really overawed by the visitors during the contest and the third goal in the second half perhaps gave them more breathing space, as well as putting the game to bed.
Ajer off the mark
Kristoffer Ajer has been one of Brentford's star performers this campaign, and given his performances over the course of the season, the Norwegian was rewarded with his first goal for the Bees since joining the Club last summer. His deft finish past Fraser Forster capped off a wonderful day's work. His versatility has also been a huge positive for the team.
With Brentford having played a back five for majority of the campaign, Ajer has predominantly operated on the right of a back three. However when Frank reverts back to four at the back, he operates as a right-back and tends to get up the pitch to support attacks, which he has successfully managed to do. Ajer has been a fantastic acquisition for Brentford, and a player that will only strive to get better and better.
Young-Coombes debut
A special moment saw Nathan Young-Coombes make his senior debut for the Bees, having done wonders for the B Team since his arrival from Rangers last June. He replaced Mathias Jensen to a rapturous reception around the stadium, and in not so typical fashion, the 19-year-old was shoved to the ground with no free-kick being awarded.
Young-Coombes laughed it off post-match, saying "Welcome to men's football, as they say!". With Brentford virtually safe, Frank will be hoping to give him more game-time with two games left, with a loan move next season the viable option for both parties given how well he has done for the B Team, with the youngster having aspirations of breaking into the first team.
Everton and Leeds on the horizon
Brentford's next two games perhaps don't come much bigger than playing two sides who are not assured of their Premier League status for next season. They head to Goodison Park next Sunday to face Everton, who face already relegated Watford on Wednesday in a must-win clash to boost their survival hopes. Regardless of the outcome at Goodison, Burnley face Spurs in the early kick-off next Sunday, so pressure will be on the Toffees to ensure they don't face the possibility of a final day relegation battle.
Brentford welcome Leeds to the Community Stadium on the final day of the season, and the thought of sending Jesse Marsch's side down would have every Bees fans licking their lips given the heated feelings between the two sides, which go back to the Championship days. There is the amusing irony of Brentford fans having the last laugh, seeing the Yorkshire side drop back into the Championship, after Leeds fans had celebrated their failure to get into the Premier League back in 2020.
