Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder is still ‘full of resentment’ for his predecessor Erik ten Hag after his summer exit from the club to join Manchester United.
It is claimed in Holland that Schreuder is still lamenting the club’s decision to sell its star players this summer – with two joining Ten Hag’s ranks at Old Trafford. Versatile central defender Lisandro Martinez and wide forward Antony both joined United in the summer transfer window.
They were among an exodus of players from the Eredivisie champions, as defender Noussair Mazraoui and midfielder Ryan Gravenberch joined Bayern Munich while Sebastian Haller, Andre Onana and Perr Schuurs also departed Amsterdam.
However, it were Martinez and Antony who were the two standout players for Ajax who departed over the summer and the two South Americans were viewed as the stars who were shaped and influenced by Ten Hag more than any others in the squad.
Spaan told Het Parool, as per MSN and cited by Sport Witness : “Schreuder is still full of resentment about the sale of Antony and Martinez. Of course, Ajax suffers from the loss of a number of basic players, but most of all Ajax suffers from the loss of Erik ten Hag.”
Ajax are top of the Eredivisie with 28 points from their opening 11 rounds of matches but have crashed out of the Champions League at the group stage of the competition. Schreuder’s side are unable to catch either Liverpool or Napoli in the group with two rounds of matches remaining.

Ten Hag guided the Dutch giants to the knockout stages of the European competition for the first time in 15 years back in 2019. Ajax eliminated Real Madrid and Juventus from that season’s competition, before falling agonisingly short against Tottenham in the semi-final.
Ajax also reached the Round of 16 of last season’s competition before falling short against Benfica, while they also won the Eredivisie title. However, Ten Hag’s exit and multiple player departures destabilised their squad ahead of this year’s campaign.
Both Martinez and Antony have starred for United this campaign, becoming regular in Ten Hag’s new-look side. The two South Americans have established themselves as fan favourites at Old Trafford and will play key roles for the team going forwards.
