Ajax hero delivers brutal Calvin Bassey Fulham transfer verdict

Ex-Real Madrid star Rafael van der Vaart has offered to drive former Rangers star Calvin Bassey to London himself on a golf cart if Fulham were prepared to fork out £17 million for the Ajax defender.

The former Ibrox stopper has been heavily criticised in the Netherlands after a difficult first season in the Eredivisie following his £23 million move to the Amsterdam side last summer.

Fulham have been linked with a £17 million move for Bassey, but both Ajax and the player have reportedly turned the move down.

However, ex-Spurs and Ajax ace van der Vaart believes it's madness for the move to be dismissed.

The 109-times capped former Dutch international star said: "For that amount of money for Calvin Bassey I would drive him myself to London in a golf cart.

"It's incredible Ajax could get £17 million for a player who spent the entire season passing the ball to the opposition."

Bassey made 64 appearances for Rangers and helped them reach the Europa League Final in 2022 before moving to Ajax last summer.

Meanwhile, former Rangers player Robbie Ure's dream European move is off.

The ex-Light Blues kid had been on trial with Dutch champions AZ Alkmaar for the past two weeks.

The Eredivisie giants had invited the young Scot to train and play in friendly matches during their pre-season preparations after he decided to leave Ibrox at the end of last season.

The 19-year-old played in Jong AZ’s 3-2 win over VV Katwijk, as he aimed to impress first-team boss Pascal Jansen.
