Airline accused of ruining $521,900 artworks during flight transfer

  • A lawsuit filed in New York state court alleges Alaska Airlines ruined more than $500,000 worth of artwork during a flight transfer in Honolulu, Hawaii.
  • Eleven original paintings bound for Naga Antiques in Hudson, New York, were allegedly left exposed in cardboard crates during a heavy rainstorm on March 18.
  • Distinguished Programs Insurance Brokerage LLC filed the lawsuit seeking to recoup more than $521,900 plus interest after paying out the gallery's claim.
  • The legal complaint accuses Alaska Airlines and its subsidiary, Hawaiian Airlines, of gross neglect, reckless disregard, and willful misconduct.
  • Neither Naga Antiques nor Alaska Airlines immediately responded to requests for comment regarding the ongoing lawsuit.
