Airdrie star scoops League One Player of the Month after five-goal haul

Airdrie's Calum Gallagher has won the League One Player of the Month award for April.

The former St Mirren and Rangers striker netted five times during the month as Ian Murray's men booked a promotion-play off spot.

His month started with a brace against East Fife before strikes against Montrose, Dumbarton and Clyde.

He was rested for the final league game of the season against Peterhead as Airdrie prepared for last week's semi-final matches with Montrose.

Gallagher will now get the chance to contest a spot in next year's Championship after helping his team to a madcap 6-5 aggregate win over the Links Park side.

A 1-0 loss in the away leg put them on the backfoot but Murray's men responded to being 4-1 down in the tie by scoring five unanswered goals.

One was grabbed by Gallagher ahead of this week's matches against Queen's Park, taking his tally for the season to 16.

He said: "It's great to receive any individual accolade and I'm really pleased to receive it this year in particular which has been possibly my favourite in football.

"As with everything this year at Airdrie, this award has been achieved with a massive effort from my team-mates, manager and back room staff who have given me the platform to perform and score goals.

"I am now hoping to top it off with a play off trophy and look forward to the week to come!"
