Airdrie retained list confirmed as another key star departs Diamonds

Airdrie have confirmed number one goalkeeper Max Currie has left the club in their end of season retained list.

The week started with a huge blow to the League One side with manager Ian Murray departing for Raith Rovers.

But already there are hopes for a bright future under new player-boss, Rhys McCabe.

He will face a rebuilding job after the Excelsior Stadium outfit's Championship play-off final defeat to Queen's Park brought a sour end to an otherwise successful third tier campaign, where they finished second on a club-record unbeaten run.

Star man Dylan Easton has already joined Murray at Rovers, along with player-assistant Scott Agnew, and now Currie has departed for something new.

Fellow goalkeeper Jay Cantley, defenders Josh Kerr, Luke Lyons and Scott Walker, midfielders Matty McDonald and Dean Ritchie, and strikers Jordan Allan and Patrick Pyott will all be leaving upon the expiry of their contracts.

Loanees Kyle MacDonald (Dunfermline Athletic), Brody Paterson and Jon Afolabi (Celtic), Scott McGill (Hearts) and Justin Devenny (Kilmarnock) have returned to their parent clubs.

Contract talks are ongoing with other out-of-contract stars while goalkeeping coach Jim Low, head physio John McMenemy and data analyst Mark McMenemy have all left.

Airdrie said in a statement: "Following the conclusion of the 2021/22 season, a number of players and staff are departing the club with our thanks and best wishes.

"Following a tremendous season in the Diamond, midfielder Dylan Easton has opted to join Ian Murray and Scott Agnew in moving to Raith Rovers, and we wish him every success at Starks Park.

"Our sincere thanks go to all the departing players for their efforts during their time at the club, and we wish them all the very best in their future careers.

"Discussions are ongoing with the remainder of the playing squad, and updates will be provided in due course."
