Airdrie-based Lanarkshire Karate Academy made headlines in Poland last week as stars Emmie McEwan and Daniel McPake won medals at the Karate Grand Prix in Karpacz.
Emmie won two gold medals, a silver and a bronze at the Championships.
And both she and Sensei Chantelle Allan featured in a local TV report after the club’s success, which saw Emmie take gold in the under-12 female Kumite (35kg) and under-14 female Kumite (40kg) without conceding a single point against her.
She also won silver in the under-12 female kata and bronze in the under-14 female kata, while club-mate Daniel was a silver medallist in the under-14 male Kata.
Proud Sensei Allan said: “We had a great weekend in Poland and I’m really happy with both of their results and performance in hard, busy categories against opponents from Ukraine, Poland and Germany.
“Emmie does get a special mention for not having a single point scored against her all day on her way to gold in the under-12 and under-14 events.
“We also had lots of fun exploring and seeing a new part of the world, so a big thank you to Billy McKay and the Govan joint shop stewards committee benevolent fund for the very kind donation that made this trip happen.”
Youngsters at the club are now busy preparing for a trip to Croatia at the end of the month when they will compete in the WKF Youth World Cup and K1 Youth League.
Sensei Allan added: “The hard work continues and I hope we can keep the momentum going as we step up a level.”
