Airdrie assistant boss Calum Fordyce says their 6-0 trouncing against FC Edinburgh needs to be put into perspective – as it was their first home league defeat in nearly a year.
The Diamonds – who were sidelined at the weekend after the death of Queen Elizabeth II forced all senior sport in Scotland to be postponed – last lost a League One match on their own patch on November 20, 2021, when eventual champions Cove Rangers ran out 2-0 winners.
While Fordyce says the manner of the defeat against Edinburgh is something that stings, he reckons everybody at New Broomfield is eager to put it right.
He hopes that happens when Clyde come calling in League One, but says nobody is overly upset for the moment.
Edinburgh’s task was made easier when Cammy Ballantyne was sent off for handball, leading to a penalty opener.
And he said: “We’re looking to prove a point and get the win on Saturday.
“It’s one defeat in 26, it’s not the end of the world, and it’s one of those things where every team eventually gets beat.
“We’re not happy with the manner in which it happened – that’s the biggest thing – but it’s nothing to dwell on.
“It’s nothing to be upset about – it’s one defeat in 26, the first at home in the league in what, near enough a year?
“It’s just one of those where you hope it’s a one-off, and I’m sure it will be.
“The standard of training this week has been incredible. Since the gaffer [Rhys McCabe] and I have come in, the standard and tempo has been excellent and this week it has increased a level again.
“That shows the boys’ desire and hunger to go and put the wrong right.
“Looking over the past four years, this is the best football we’ve been playing.
“So you can’t be too angry and disappointed, you just have to move on.”
Fordyce hopes that starts with the visit of Clyde next weekend, should the game go ahead.
He said: "We had some good results and some poor results, last season.
“We drew twice against them, and Clyde did really well against us last season.
"They limited us, and we dropped a good few points against them that maybe cost in the end with the league.
“But Clyde are a very good side, Danny Lennon’s an experienced manager and he has assembled a good side, as you see with where they’re sitting in the table and some of the results they’ve had.
“It’s going to be a really tough game, and we’ve got to give them respect as they will to us, and try and get the three points, which is the most important thing.”
