Rhys McCabe has told his Airdrie side to go on a consistent run after bagging back-to-back league wins for only the second time this season.
Saturday’s 1-0 win at Clyde, courtesy of Lewis Jamieson’s strike after his penalty had been saved by Neil Parry, came seven days after a 4-0 win over Montrose.
And player-boss McCabe has challenged his side to keep that run going when they host Peterhead in League One this weekend.
He said: “There are loads of positives, in terms of where we’ve been as a team maybe four or five weeks ago, to where we are now.
“There has been lots of improvement and lots to build on.
“It was all right getting a win against Montrose last week but unless you back that up it means nothing.
“That has been our problem so far this season – getting a run of consistency. I’ve barked that message on to the boys this week and we’re delighted now that we have back-to-back wins.
“On Saturday against Peterhead it’s a home tie for us, so we’re looking to go and build on the two wins, back-to-back.
“We’ll recover well, get our message across, and hopefully get the three points.”
Jamieson’s fifth goal in three games eventually downed a stubborn Clyde side who are on a run of 11 straight league defeats, and parted company with boss Danny Lennon last week.
McCabe knew it would be difficult, but was delighted with LJ’s contribution.
He said: “It was never going to be one of those games.
“If you understand football you know coming away from home against a side who are fighting for their life, and everything that has gone on with the club in the last couple of weeks, we were never going to come here and create 20 or 30 chances on goal.
“We knew that they would be tough to break down, but it was about trusting that process, staying in the game, and eventually our quality would shine through, which it did.”
On Jamieson, McCabe said: “He’s contributing. I’d like him to shoot more, and I said that to him in the first half.
“He’s got quick feet, he’s sharp when he’s driving inside – especially on that right-hand side when he cuts in on his left foot – but sometimes I’d like him to pull that trigger just a wee bit earlier.”
“It’s just about keeping his confidence high and hopefully the goals keep coming from him.”
