Airdrieonians moved up to second spot in League One after a thumping Lanarkshire derby victory over Clyde.
Goals from Lewis Jamieson - who was on loan at the Bully Wee last season - Gabby McGill, Salim Kouider-Aissa and a second-half double from Callum Smith ensured the Diamonds claimed all three points to bounce back from their 6-0 humilation at the hands of FC Edinbrugh on their last league outing.
It might have been more for the hosts had man of the match Adam Frizzell's deflected effort not come back off the post in the first half and that is now four defeats on the spin for Danny Lennon's side, with 13 goals conceded in that spell.
Clyde are now eighth in the table and three points ahead of bottom side Peterhead, while Rhys McCabe's men are now just a point adrift of table-topping Dunfermline, who drew 1-1 with Falkirk.
Airdrie make three changes from that 6-0 hammering to FC Edinburgh in their last outing as new signings Aaron Taylor-Sinclair and Charlie Telfer were handed their debuts, while Euan Deveney also came into the starting 11. McCabe, Ben Wylie and the suspended Cammy Ballantyne, who saw red against Edinburgh, dropped out.
Clyde also made three changes as Peter Grant, Euan Cameron and Olly McDonald got the nod at the expense of Kurtis Roberts, Ross Lyon and Andy Rodden who started in their 4-2 defeat at home to Alloa.
On a bright afternoon at New Broomfield it was the Diamonds who had the first sight of goal in the ninth minute when Jamieson raced through and forced Neil Parry into a solid double-stop with two powerful, low strikes in the box.
Moments later, it was the woodwork that came to Clyde's rescue when Adam Frizzell's goal-bound strike was turned onto the post by Euan Cameron, and the ball bounced straight into the grateful arms of Parry.
Down the other end, Ross Cunningham's curling free-kick towards Alex Henderson's right-hand corner brought out a good stop from the Diamonds No.1, before ex-Airdrie man Jordan Allan fired the rebound wide against his former employers.
In the 29th minute Allan wasn't as wasteful as he thundered a strike towards the top corner and Henderson had to get a strong hand to it to push the ball over the crossbar.
But seven minutes before the interval it was the hosts who broke the deadlock. Lewis Jamieson was standing in an offside position as the ball was knocked back towards goal by a Clyde defender and Jamieson was on hand to easily sweep the ball into the net. The far side assistant did raise his flag for offside, but referee Gavin Duncan rightly awarded the goal and Airdrie went in at the break 1-0 to the good.
The Bully Wee made a double switch at the interval as Danny Lennon looked to drag his side back into the contest. Olly McDonald and Erik Sula made way for Barry Cuddihy and Paul Kennedy.
And Clyde almost pulled themselves level six minutes into the second half when the ball broke to Cunningham on the edge of the box. His low drive had Henderson rooted to his spot but the effort clipped the side of the post and Airdrie breathed a sigh of relief.
A minute later Airdrie should have added a second when fantastic footwork from Callum Smith inside the box turned his marker inside out and put the ball on a plate for Gabby McGill to sidefoot the ball into the net, but the striker fluffed his lines and that allowed Thicot to make a crucial intervention.
Another fine tackle from Thicot in Airdrie's next attack then denied Diamonds skipper Callum Fordyce, as he looked to find the bottom corner from 10 yards out.
In the 66th minute, though, McGill made up for his earlier miss when he doubled Airdrie's advantage. A high, looping diagonal into the box from Adam Frizzell picked out the striker in the box and he made no mistake this time, rifling his volley beyond Parry.
Smith got in on the act in the 70th minute when he cut inside and curled a fine finish past Parry into the top corner.
And eight minutes later he added some gloss to the scoreline when he got the better of Thicot to latch on to Frizzell's through ball and cooly slot the ball into the net from close range.
But there was still time for Salim Kouider-Aissa, who came on as an 81st minute substitute for Smith, to grab the final goal of the game when he nodded home at the back post one minute from time.
It's SPFL Trust Trophy third round action for both sides next week when Airdrie travel to Alloa on Friday night and Clyde host Welsh Premier side Caernafron Town on the Saturday at New Douglas Park.
