Air fryers and slow cookers v ovens and microwaves - how much each costs to run

With the new energy price cap now in place, many will be looking at ways to save money on their bills with energy-efficient appliances. The team at Hometree have revealed the costs of running your cooking appliances by looking at which ones use the least amount of energy, and have revealed Aldi’s £20 slow cooker which has been selling out in stores and costs just 5p per hour to run.

It's possible to estimate how much energy each appliance uses by multiplying its power rating in kW by the number of minutes/hours it’s left on. Wattage information should be on the label or in any manual that comes with your appliance. For example, a microwave may have a power rating of 700W (there are 1000W in a kW), if you run it for 3 minutes it uses 0.035 kWh. Here are the workings of the equation: 0.7 x 3/60 = 0.035kWh.
