Family's heartbreak as 'brilliant' mum-of-11 dies, aged 39

A "strong and independent" mum-of-11 has died after being diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Sharon Lawless, from Toxteth, died on Friday, August 5, with her family by her side. The 39-year-old leaves behind five daughters and six sons aged between 4-22 years old.

Sharon first fell ill back in October last year when she started feeling tired and complaining of stomach pains.

Sister Megan Povey, 26, told the ECHO: "She was just tired a lot and she was getting stomach pains. At first she didn't think anything of it. We just thought she was unwell and then obviously it was prolonged and prolonged.

"She was going to the doctors to find out what it could be. She always suffered from anaemia, so they put her on iron tablets to see if that's what it was about."

Live updates as fire fighters rush to Aintree Hospital blaze

Fire crews are currently tackling a blaze at Aintree University Hospital.

Merseyside fire and rescue were called to the scene, on Longmoor Lane, at around 4.34am this morning.

Six fire engines are at the scene as a fire started on the roof of a three-storey building next to the A&E department.

Convicted paedophile filmed himself performing sex act by open front door

A convicted sex offender filmed himself performing a sex act by his open front door.

Jamie Sharkey was also caught with a stash of indecent images of children on his phone, while messages revealed his sick desire to engage in sexual activity with a "hot schoolgirl". Liverpool Crown Court heard yesterday, Tuesday, that the 33-year-old was previously handed a two-year community order after being convicted of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and attempting sexual communications with a child in November 2019.

He was also given a sexual harm prevention order, the requirements of which included a ban on deleting his internet history. But on May 7 last year, police "had cause to attend his home" on Mellors Close in Southport.

There, a support worker present "advised the officer that the defendant had deleted the internet search history on his mobile". His iPhone was seized as a result, and analysis subsequently confirmed this to be the case.

Also found on the device were 10 indecent images of children - including one category A picture, showing the most serious forms of abuse - and an extreme pornographic image involving a horse. Meanwhile, Sharkey had videoed himself masturbating while sitting on the floor of his hallway with the front door open and looking at at the street and car park opposite.
