Aiken Promotions issues apology after 'chaotic scenes' at Ed Sheeran's Irish gig

Ed Sheeran took to the stage in Belfast on Thursday for the first of his two shows in the Northern Irish capital.

However, some were left disappointed with the delays they faced accessing the venue at Boucher Road Playing Fields.

The entrance to the site was said to be “chaotic” and “thousands” of people were “refused entry” over issues with ticket verification.

One person in attendance said: “My son bought tickets and transferred two of them to my daughter. My son went in ahead of her as she was at work.

"She's been outside Boucher playing fields for almost an hour waiting in a queue to print off her tickets! She's been told that no digital tickets are working to allow entry.

"No other explanation has been given. It's ridiculous,” they told Belfast Live.

Despite the chaos, 40,000 braved the weather to watch the singer-songwriter perform in the north for the first time since 2018, with another 40,000 due to arrive tonight.

In relation to the difficulty, some had, a spokesperson from Aiken Promotions said: “At times there were some issues with connectivity.

"Concert goers are reminded to download the ticket app before arrival to the site.

"Also, some of the food outlets do not have credit card facilities so we recommend people bring cash.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Ed took to the stage in Belfast after having played in Croke Park, Pairc Ui Chaoimh and Thomand Park.
