AIADMK organisation secretary D. Jayakumar on Saturday accused Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of trying to cover up the problem in Coimbatore, where the principal Opposition party had protested against the district administration for being “biased” in the ruling party’s favour in the run-up to polling for the urban local bodies elections.
After casting his vote, along with his son and former South Chennai MP J. Jayavardhan, at a school in Mandaveli here, Mr. Jayakumar said that it was only after the persistent efforts of his colleagues in Coimbatore, including former Minister S.P. Velumani, that the administration had “evicted” some persons. “Does this not show there were outsiders there at the outset,” he asked. The administration would not have taken any action had there been no protest by his party.
Responding to Mr. Stalin’s observation that the AIADMK was making baseless allegations out of the fear of defeat, he said that just because he expressed “words of deception”, people would not believe him.
