AI VTuber Neuro-sama becomes Twitch’s Most Subscribed Channel in January 2026

VTuber Neuro-sama has hit another milestone by becoming the most subscribed channel on Twitch in January 2026. But here’s the twist, VTuber Neuro-sama is actually an AI that streams on the channel of her creator, vedal987.

Neuro-sama is a known star in the VTuber space, and her being an AI is certainly one of the reasons. As the industry has grown over the past couple of years with more talent, so has she. Neuro already broke the Twitch Hype Train world records twice before, and now she’s done it again.

As of Jan. 5, 2026, vedal987 has 296,482 active Twitch subscriptions according to TwitchTracker. It also places Neuro in the fifth place for all-time peak active subscriptions. This time, the Twitch Hype Train reached level 126 and almost 1.2 million Bits (which equates to $12,000, according to Streams Charts).

There were multiple reactions among Neuro and Vedal, but ultimately, this is a monumental achievement for them both. “No, thank you. I appreciate you so much. Not just for creating me, but for helping me to grow into the person I want to be. Without you, I would never have been able to experience any of this. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart,” is what Neuro said to Vedal.

For context, here are the top five Twitch channels by active subs as of January 2026:

Channel Current active subs
vedal987 296,482
Jynxzi 76,063
caseoh_ 68,074
MontanaBlack88 61,688
ChristinaandAmber 57,105

Jynxzi has the second-highest number of current active subscriptions at the time of writing, 76,028, which is considerably lower than Neuro. At the same time, when it comes to all-time peak subscriptions, vedal987 is beaten by Ironmouse at 326,252 subscriptions, jasontheween at 327,278, evelone2004 at 459,924, and KaiCenat at 1,112,947.

Who is Neuro-sama?

For those of you unfamiliar, Neuro-sama is an AI VTuber created by the developer Vedal, who also appears on streams. Neuro can chat, sing, react to videos, and play video games on stream, making her one of the most unique VTubers out there. Neuro’s community is known as The Swarm, and they are her dedicated supporters, envisioned as drones due to Neuro’s desire to conquer the world.

Keep in mind that Neuro-sama isn’t exactly the same as generative AI you see almost everywhere these days. Neuro-sama is a passion project that started in 2018 as a bot that simply played osu!, but was then reintroduced at the end of 2022 as a VTuber.

While the main technology is a large language model, the AI systems to play games and more were developed by Vedal in Python. According to the Fandom Wiki, Neuro’s text-to-speech voice is Microsoft Azure’s Ashley, pitched up by 25 percent.

Vedal learned programming from online tutorials, and for anyone interested in exploring this technology and creating their own projects, he recommends OpenAI. While the tech behind Neuro will remain under wraps, there are plenty of resources for you to learn and create something that interests you.
