Utah has named six outside organizations to evaluate artificial intelligence tools that will help treat patients in the state, but the companies being evaluated, not the state, will pay for those reviews. The arrangement, posted by the Utah Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy, comes as the state approves new AI pilots for prescription refills, acne treatment, and women's health.
For Utah patients, the stakes are direct. Some of these tools may soon renew prescriptions or recommend treatment with limited human review, and the people checking their safety are paid by the companies that built them.
