Ahmedabad: Man booked over instant triple talaq

AHMEDABAD: A 22-year-old woman from Juhapura area of the city on Sunday filed a complaint with Vejalpur police alleging that her husband took instant divorce from her by uttering talaq thrice on phone. She married a man from Vatva area of the city on February 9, 2019. But soon after the marriage, he began beating her up over frivolous issues.

She said that after she delivered a baby girl on May 7, 2020, he began harassing her more, saying he only wanted a son.

She alleged in the FIR that he used to humiliate her, saying he would marry another woman. The FIR also stated that he refused to let her visit her parents.

In December 2021, he suddenly picked a fight with her over the baby girl and assaulted her. He later sent her to her maternal home in Vatva.

She said that she tried to strike a compromise with him, but he did not relent. On Sunday afternoon, he called her on on her mother’s cellphone and said “talaq” thrice. She later approached Vejalpur police and filed a complaint of domestic violence against her husband.
