Late in the Rams’ 30-13 win over the Seahawks, DK Metcalf lost his cool. He was understandably frustrated after his offense had mustered less than 10 yards in the second half up to that point, but he took it out on Rams cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon with a late hit.
Metcalf leveled Witherspoon with a cheap, blindside block, a completely unnecessary hit by the Seahawks receiver. Witherspoon was tended to by the training staff and was slow to get up, which had Sean McVay yelling from the sideline.
Buy Rams Tickets“That’s so bad!” McVay could be seen saying.
McVay told reporters on Monday that Witherspoon suffered a rib and hip contusion from the shot he took, though it’s not expected to cause him to miss Week 2.
“Ahkello had a rib and hit contusion with that shot that he took at the end of the game, but all of those guys should be OK,” McVay said of Witherspoon and other Rams who were a little banged up.
Here’s the play in question.
Frustrations boiling over for the Seahawks right now 😬

One play after that hit, Metcalf was flagged for taunting when he was seen jawing with Rams players and coaches on the sideline, who were still frustrated by Metcalf’s dirty hit.
“I seen their coaches yelling at me or saying something to me and their players, and I let that get to me,” Metcalf said. “I retaliated, and the second man always gets caught.
“I got to be better in that aspect.”
Thankfully, Witherspoon will be able to play against the 49ers and won’t have to miss any time, but Metcalf is almost certain to receive a fine in the mail from the NFL for this play.
