Agent's View: Glen Iris - More than just a pretty postcode

Glen Iris, a coveted enclave nestled in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, has long been a symbol of prestige and exclusivity. Its tree-lined streets, grand homes, and proximity to Melbourne's most prestigious private schools have made it a sought-after address for generations. However, breaking into this elusive market can be a daunting challenge.

To navigate the complexities of buying and selling in Glen Iris, View turned to the expert guidance of Jesse Matthews from Marshall White. With an in-depth knowledge of the local market and a proven track record of success, Matthews offers invaluable insights and practical advice.

In this exclusive Agent's View, the first in our ongoing series, he shares his expertise, helping you unlock the secrets to securing your dream home in this sought-after suburb.

Matthews is the fourth generation in his family to live in Glen Iris. "My great grand dad bought it in the 1940's when it was a mix of paddocks and flower farms."

It was known as a 'dry suburb' as part of the Boroondara temperance movement of the 1920's, but the leafy 'burb has shaken off it's propensity for pomp over party with the archaic law abolished in 2021.

"I think Glen Iris has evolved massively since I was a kid," says Jesse. "It's become a much more enjoyable suburb for adults, with world-class coffee shops, wine bars, and phenomenal restaurants."

But what truly drives Jesse is the opportunity to help his clients achieve their real estate goals. "It's the client facing aspect that gets me up in the morning," he explains. "Knowing I'm helping people move to the next step in their lives is incredibly rewarding. Building trust and acting as a counsellor, trusted advisor, and even a family confidante - that's what makes this job so special."

Top tips for sellers

When asked about his top tip for buyers, Jesse emphasises the importance of presentation and styling. "Every dollar spent on presenting the home will have a massive impact on the end price," he advises. "Imagine the positive experience potential buyers will have when they walk through a well-presented property."
