Agent of Nottingham Forest transfer 'target' speaks out as Djed Spence decision expected

The agent of Pablo Maia has said that it ‘won’t be bad’ for his client to stay at his current club until the end of the season, despite links with a move to the Premier League in January.

Nottingham Forest are one of a few Premier League teams to be credited with an interest in the 20-year-old ahead of the winter window. Reports claim that the Reds are ready to beat off competition from the likes of Fulham for the player.

Maia has come through the youth team at Sao Paulo, and has caught the eye with his performances in Brazil’s top division. And the player’s agent Junior Pedroso has revealed that there has been interest in his client, although neither are in a rush to move away from Brazil in January.

Spence's status

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte could make a final decision on the short-term future of Nottingham Forest promotion hero Djed Spence after working with him over the World Cup break.

The wing-back was a key player in the Reds’ charge towards the Premier League last season when he was on a season-long loan from Middlesbrough. Forest were keen to make the deal permanent in the summer, as they prepared for the Premier League, but the player instead completed a move to Tottenham.

The 22-year-old signed a five-year deal with the North London club, but has found game time hard to come by this season. Spence has played a total of just three minutes over three appearances in the Premier League.

It has led to reports that Spurs will be willing to loan the player out when the January window opens. Although if Forest will revive their interest is still to be seen, given the summer signings of Neco Williams and Serge Aurier.

Lee's long wait

Former Nottingham Forest striker Jason Lee has said that he has waited a ‘long time’ for an apology from David Baddiel, for sketches mocking the player in the 1990s.

Sketches on the Fantasy Football League show saw the comedian black up and mock Lee’s dreadlocks on regular occasions. The sketches would also see the striker mocked for he perceived poor finishing.

After Frank Skinner previously apologised in the media, Lee had the chance to get a face to face apology from Baddiel through the latter’s Channel 4 documentary, Jews don’t count. The TV personality is said to have felt the need to address the issue created by the sketches.

“I’ve had to wait a long time, I’ve always felt I was contactable and there was an opportunity,” Lee told the Guardian of the apology. “I thought it was a poor excuse to say he couldn’t get in touch with me. I think he admits embarrassment, shame and the longer it took, the harder it was to have that conversation.”

Early reflections

Nottingham Forest have every chance of staying in the Premier League and comedian Matt Forde is desperate for them to do so as he dreads a return to the Championship.

The 40-year-old ardent Red watched Forest throughout their 23 years outside of the top flight and after being reminded of the scale of the Premier League, he is fearful of Forest going down, but believes they have enough to stay up after collecting 13 points so far.

"I'm still enjoying it," he told the latest Garibaldi Red podcast shortly before Forest beat Crystal Palace. "I'm just so pleased we're in the Premier League and on Match of the Day. Maybe I'm naïve but it doesn't feel perilous yet. Obviously we need to get out of the bottom three.

"It doesn't feel like a terrible season at all. So much of it is really enjoyable. Beating Liverpool and West Ham was great and we should have beaten Brentford.
