Agent makes £9m transfer admission amid Nottingham Forest links

The agent of Pablo Maia has said that it ‘won’t be bad’ for his client to stay at his current club until the end of the season, despite links with a move to the Premier League in January.

Nottingham Forest are one of a few Premier League teams to be credited with an interest in the 20-year-old ahead of the winter window. Reports claim that the Reds are ready to beat off competition from the likes of Fulham for the player.

Maia has come through the youth team at Sao Paulo, and has caught the eye with his performances in Brazil’s top division. And the player’s agent Junior Pedroso has revealed that there has been interest in his client, although neither are in a rush to move away from Brazil in January.

“We have many queries. He has caught the attention of the international market,” he told UOL . “But we are waiting to see if any club will formalise an offer.

“Anyway, he is maturing. And it won’t be bad to stay another six months in Sao Paulo.”

Fulham are said to have seen an initial bid of around €7.5 million (£6.5m) turned down by Sao Paulo, with the Brazilian club looking for a fee of around €10 million (£9m). But Pedroso has admitted that the fee could be a problem in any potential move for the young player.

“The release clause is high, but it doesn’t match reality,” the agent added. “In the European winter window, it is difficult for a club to have a budget for a young player who still needs to adapt.”

Speaking last week, Maia himself seemed pretty relaxed about the potential interest in him, although he did say that a move to Europe is a ‘dream’ for him . Should Forest make a move, he would be the second Brazilian player to join the club in January, with attacking midfielder Gustavo Scarpa joining after signing a pre-contract earlier this year.
