An upcoming MCU show, believed to be titled Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, has now received a third title change in as many years. The Agatha TV show has a release date set for late-2024, though an exact month has not been provided by Disney as of yet. Regardless, the show has continued production as one of the MCU's many upcoming TV shows, promising a deeper look at the character of Agatha Harkness from WandaVision. Acting as one of two pseudo-WandaVision season 2 projects, the show will star Kathryn Hahn in the titular role.
Interestingly, the Agatha Harkness TV show has had several title changes over the years, with the Disney+ website seemingly revealing yet another alteration. What was set to be Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is now seemingly just Agatha, hinting that the show has dropped subtitles altogether. The show was originally announced as Agatha: House of Harkness, before changing the subtitle to Coven of Chaos. Another change was then announced as Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, before Disney+ began listing the show as simply Agatha.
Agatha is set to consist of nine episodes much like WandaVision did, reflecting Jac Schaeffer's involvement in both shows.
In any other production, a constantly changing title would be cause for concern. If anything, changing titles hints at creative differences within Marvel Studios, leading many to worry about Agatha's quality based on the seemingly tumultuous production. That said, with Agatha specifically, another possibility is much more likely than a troubled production.
In WandaVision, Agatha was depicted as a character who was constantly having to adapt, improvise, and scheme in order to get what she wanted. As such, the changing of Agatha's title instead reflects the state of her character. Just as Agatha herself often had to change and mold herself into something else to manipulate Wanda Maximoff, the show is adapting to whatever befits Agatha's character. Therefore, the changing titles of the production leading up to Agatha could be perceived as a genius marketing move on Marvel Studios' part to reflect the titular character's endlessly intriguing personality.
