One Nation’s immigration targets have been described as “all over the shop” after Barnaby Joyce said his One Nation colleague David Farley misspoke when he remarked the party’s net migration target was “not too different” from Labor’s.
Farley ruffled feathers when he told the ABC that while One Nation’s net overseas migration target was 130,000, it would allow an additional 100,000 migrant workers (including skilled workers, backpackers, and labour through the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme) in at a minimum. But Joyce claimed Farley had made a rookie mistake, saying “when people are new in parliament, they can sometimes get things incorrect… God knows I’ve done it enough”.
The shadow defence minister, James Paterson, said the latest incident was “very typical” of One Nation, and “yet more evidence of why they’re just not fit to govern”.

“There will be no change to WA’s GST arrangements while I’m prime minister.” – Anthony Albanese
The prime minister spoke in Perth, where he said there will be “no change” to Western Australia’s share of the GST while he is in the top job. Questions about the arrangement come after an interim report from the Productivity Commission which claimed the deal with WA was a multi-billion dollar mistake that should be reversed.
The WA premier, Roger Cook, welcomed Albanese’s assurances, saying Western Australians would be “relieved and pleased to hear the words from the prime minister.”
