Pictures have shown the aftermath of a lorry fire which closed a section of the M1.
The M1 was closed in both directions between J23 ( Loughborough ) and J23a (for East Midlands Airport) due to a lorry fire which was reported to Leicestershire Police at around 1pm on March 14.
Highways England have said that prior to the fire, the lorry collided with a significant amount of nearside barrier including on an elevated bridge section.
The damage caused by this crash and the resulting fire can been seen in images released by Highways England, with the trailer of the lorry completely burnt out.
As a result of the crash "significant damage" has been caused which will need to be assessed and repaired.
The vehicle has also ruptured its fuel tank, spilling diesel onto the road surface.
Highways England also stated that there was approximately three and a half miles of congestion in both directions approaching the closures.
Leicestershire Police have said that no-one has been injured in the incident, where a lorry collided with a motorway barrier.
A spokesperson said: "We got a call of a report that a lorry collided with a barrier on the M1 at around 1pm.
"It was also reported that the lorry was alight.
"Officers are currently on the scene and so are collegues from the Fire Service, ambulance service and Highways England. The driver was not injured and the motorway remains closed at this time."
