HYDERABAD: Delay in granting of visa to 20-year-old rookie spinner Shoaib Bashir, a British citizen of Pakistani origin, snowballed into a controversy on Wednesday, the eve of the first Test between India and England, with visiting England skipper Ben Stokes saying he was "devastated" and the British government asking India to "treat British citizens fairly at all times in its visa process".
The dust settled later in the evening after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) posted on X: "Shoaib Bashir has now received his visa and is due to travel to join up with the team in India this weekend. We're glad the situation has now been resolved."
