After Nolo, Kaʻū Households Under Essential Water Use Notice Should Protect Medicines and Devices Before the Next Storm

Hurricane Nolo has moved away from the Hawaiian Islands, and the Hawaiʻi County public shelters that opened ahead of the storm have closed. But for families in Nāʻālehu, Waiʻōhinu, Discovery Harbour, and South Point, the storm is not fully over. The county Department of Water Supply has asked customers in those service areas to use water for essential needs only, and the notice remained in effect as of Sept. 28.

The notice came after flooding, power outages, and possible damage to water system infrastructure limited the department's ability to supply the area, Big Island Video News reported. Customers should limit water to drinking, cooking, personal hygiene, sanitation, and health-related household needs. Low pressure and intermittent service are expected.
